Green Yard Kleven in Ulsteinvik was commissioned with the extensive technical upgrade to rebuild Hurtigruten Expeditions' ship, MS Finnmarken, into a hybrid-powered expedition ship.
In 2020, the Hurtigruten ship was completely renovated inside, and the technical upgrade and hybrid package that was installed was the last part of the rebuild before MS Finnmarken became a full-fledged hybrid expedition ship. The ship changed its name to MS Otto Sverdrup during the shipyard stay, and sails for Hurtigruten Expeditions.
In addition to installing the hybrid package, which consists of a battery pack in combination with diesel engines, new combined shaft generators and drive motors were installed together with new frequency converters. The assignment was carried out in collaboration with many local suppliers.
MS Finnmarken was built at our shipyard and delivered to Hurtigruten in 2002.
